Honorary Secretary

Dr. M. A. Iqbal obtained his Ph.D. from IIT Delhi in 2006 in the area of impact mechanics. He obtained his M.Tech. from Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh in 2002 and B. Tech. from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi in 1999.Dr. Iqbal is internationally known for his basic research work on mechanics of ballistic penetration of metals, concrete and laminated composite. He has contributed in establishing energy dissipation characteristics of plates and shells in different deformation modes under impact loading. He has also worked upon the material characterization and constitutive modeling of ceramics, concrete, steel and aluminum alloys under high strain rate and high temperature.

Dr. Iqbal has recently pursued postdoctoral research from The University of Adelaide, South Australia on the prestigious Endeavour Research Fellowship awarded by The Government of Australia. He studied the mechanics of deformation and energy absorption characteristics of prestressed concrete to eventually design and develop efficient and economic protective structures for the cyclone prone regions of Australia.

He has developed a laboratory for “Impact Loading” at the Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Roorkee. The laboratory is equipped with a Ballistic Impact setup and a Drop Hammer Setup for studying the ballistic performance and the drop-impact response of structural elements. Dr. Iqbal is the member of Editorial Board of International Journal of Impact

Engineering, Elsevier and Izvestiya of Saratov University: Mathematics. Mechanics. Informatics, Russia. He has also served as the Managing Guest Editor for International Journal of Impact Engineering, Thin-Walled Structures and Procedia Engineering (Elsevier). He has supervised 5 Ph.D. theses and published 63 papers in refereed journals.
